One of the activities that is being favored by the use of these techniques is the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage.

By using laser scanners, we can document spaces and architectural elements obtaining high resolution and precision point clouds, also capturing color thanks to the integrated HDR camera.

These data will be very useful for architects, archaeologists and restorers since it will allow to virtually analyze the 3D space on an immersive experience, as if they were in front of the object itself. In addition, plans, elevations and sections can be extracted with great ease.

The main benefits of using this technology are:

  • Higher precision and reliability compared to conventional methods.
  • Non-invasive, non-destructive method of data collection.

Within the last year, our team has been developing metrology software to assist ITER’s SSAT operation. Our software runs Spatial Analyzer and creates a comprehensive interface to assist the guidance of the 22m high tool. Last week, our engineers were giving support to the DYNAMIC team to validate the functionalities of the software with the 400 tones test load mounted on the SSAT and performing several movements to evaluate the accuracy of the machine. The next step is to use it with the real components, congrats to the team involved!

The Metromecanica automation team traveled to Germany to show F4E a portable automatic solution developed for dimensional verification of steps and gaps, using in this case a Gapgun as measurement equipment together with a UR 5 e-Series collaborative robot.

This portable automatic solution is capable of aligning itself with the real product in order to quickly and with extreme precision measure the more than 1200 gaps between the blocks of the Inner-Vertical Target component for the ITER nuclear fusion project.
